Invisalign is an effective, easy to use alternative to wearing braces. Known for their discreetness, Invisalign slowly shifts the teeth into place without the use of brackets, bands or wires.
Custom aligners, molded specifically to your teeth, are worn and switched out every two weeks. Made of smooth plastic, these aligners are both comfortable and easy to clean.
Invisalign is worn for 20-22 hours a day, and should be removed for brushing, flossing and eating. Because they are removable, there is no need to worry about dietary restrictions or messy cleaning rituals.
Before deciding on Invisalign, there are a few things you should keep in mind:
- Actually wearing them: Although this may seem obvious, you have to wear the aligners for your teeth to change. Many orthodontists recommend keeping the aligners in for 22 hours, which may be harder than you first realize due to snacking, drinking or other activities. Always remember to put them back in once you’re done.
- Daily drink intake: If you’re a big coffee or wine drinker, Invisalign may not be for you. Anything that can stain your teeth, can and will stain your Invisalign as well.
- Longer treatment time: On average, people using wear their aligners for anywhere between nine and 18 months, but this can vary. The longevity of your treatment will be discussed before the aligners are created, but keep in mind this can change.
- Little to no associated pain: With little to no pain experienced, many choose Invisalign as an easy, more manageable way to straighten teeth.
