If your child is like most youngsters, he's going to need braces. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists estimates that 80 percent of kids require orthodontic treatment at some point in their lives. If you've been told that your son or daughter will fall into this category, you may want to consider following the lead of one reality star parent. Although Kate Gosselin may not have the best reputation among her fellow television personalities, she did recently come up with a smart idea. According to family resource website Babble.com, Gosselin hosted a "pre-braces" party for her two daughters, Cara and Mady.
What kind of treats were included during this get-together? Candy ranging from gummy bears to Air Heads, of course. Anyone who has had braces knows that these kinds of goodies are off-limits during treatment because they can damage the brackets. The twins also opted to have pizza served, knowing that they'll have to avoid the chewy crusts once their braces are on.
Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time that Gosselin's daughter Mady has had braces put on her teeth. When she was younger, her orthodontist recommended she divide her treatment into two phases. This involved wearing braces when she was 8 years old, taking them off and waiting four years, and applying a second set when she turned 12 years old.
The Gosselin family is no stranger to orthodontics. Gosselin had adult braces and many if not all of her other children will require treatment in the future. Although it may take time, the mother of eight seems to know the process is worth it.
In fact, when one of her Twitter followers tweeted that braces were the "worst thing ever," Kate replied "No! Best thing ever! Makes beautiful teeth in the end!"
